HER Productions is a Newcastle-based theatre and production company that champions female-identifying and emerging creatives by supporting projects that blend traditional and experimental practices.

By reimagining classic and contemporary works, the company encourages creatives to explore boundary-pushing narratives that reflect their unique perspectives and artistic voices through dance, movement and text.

Grant funds from TiNA will support emerging artists Skip Willcox, Belle Beasley, Marigold Pazar and Charlotte De Wit to develop a new multidisciplinary work for HER Productions. Combining their creative practices of dance, movement, immersive theatre and devised work, the artists will create an innovative portrayal of 17th Century Italian Baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi’s life and trial.

The trial of Artemisia Gentileschi in 1612 is one of the most infamous legal cases in art history. Artemisia, known for her powerful depictions of women, accused fellow artist Agostino Tassi of rape. This case, documented in court records, provides rare insight into the life of a female artist in the early 17th Century, as well as the trauma and injustice she endured.

By taking Renaissance archetypes and historical artefacts and placing them alongside modern expressions of resilience and defiance, HER Productions aims to evoke the profound challenges faced by women artists, then and now.
