David Lobb a.k.a. LOVEDAVID is a multidisciplinary artist whose creative practice relies on experimentation. As he puts it, ‘with every idea; a different method of realising it’.
LOVEDAVID is a complete devotion to feeling and leaning into feeling. Intimate exchanges between friends, over-sharing between strangers and dialogues within oneself form the basis of his practice.
Working across worlds of KUFKUF (Fashion Brand), animation, events and performances, education and daydreaming, he hopes to create memorable artefacts for those around him.
In recent years he has worked as a freelance animator, artist and designer across independent and commercial projects. These include Future Classic, Sydney Festival, Newcastle Art Gallery, Maitland Regional Gallery, Newcastle Writers Festivav The Lair, Terrific Effort, KROOL and Flowerbooks, as well as work with many bands, local artists and event producers.
His latest initiative, dayliketoday, is an open studio/experimental art project within the Clyde Street Arts Precinct dedicated to the in-between and half-baked endeavours of creativity. The 48sqm multi-arts venue is available for hire as well as offering a bespoke curation of underground and experimental art, music and fashion.
In 2021 LOVEDAVID was granted The Creator Incubator’s HIC-ARA Residency. He says the dayliketoday idea has come as a result of being amidst such a diverse group of artists in a ‘totally DIY and chaotic’ precinct.
LOVEDAVID will use the grant from TiNA to continue the development of dayliketoday. His goal is to build up the venue within Newcastle's cultural and artistic landscape, offering truly accessible and free experimental art events. He envisages ‘anything from industrial yoga to entire stage shows’.
