Black Spot Project
Sun 23rd Oct 10:00 - 15:00
Haylee Knight is a multidisciplinary artist exploring themes of loss and remembrance. Handmade roadside memorials, featuring plastic flowers, signs and other ephemera in remembrance of loved ones who have died in motor vehicle accidents are of particular interest and have informed the ephemeral sculptural work Black Spot Project.
Black Spot Project is a tribute to those who have lost their lives on Australian roads. Like roadside memorials the work will be subject to the elements.
The NSW Government Black Spot program, which targets road locations where crashes are occurring, places a sign at these sites featuring a black circle and yellow cross. Knight will recreate the logo from shredded car tyres collected by the roadside and additionally sourced from tyre recyclers. The yellow created in flowers and reflectors.
Keep an eye on TiNA socials to join us at the install and location of this experimental open air installation.
Additional support for this project has been graciously provided by artist Dani Marti and Tyrecycle.
This project has been coordinated by This is Not Art Visual Arts Producer Madeleine Snow.
